โปรแกรมแบบ Portable นั้น ช่วยให้สามารถใช้โปรแกรมได้โดยไม่จำเป็นต้องทำการติดตั้งลงบนระบบ และยังสามารถที่จะเก็บโปรแกรมแบบ Portable ไว้ในแฟลชไดร์ฟเพื่อพกพาไปใช้งานบนเครื่องต่างๆ ได้อย่างสะดวกอีกด้วย

ปัจจุบันมีทีมพัฒนาหลายที่ด้วยกันที่พัฒนาโปรแกรมแบบ Portable และทีมงาน PortableApps.com ก็เป็นหนึ่งทีมที่มีชื่อเสียงเป็นรู้จักกันทั่วไป

โดยโปรแกรมแบบ Portable ที่ทีมงาน PortableApps.com พัฒนามีอยู่หลายโปรแกรมด้วยกัน ตัวอย่างเช่น Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, Mozilla Sunbird และรวมถึงชุดโปรแกรม OpenOffice เป็นต้น

นอกจากนี้ ทีมงาน PortableApps.com ยังได้ทำการรวบรวมโปรแกรมแบบ Portable ที่พัฒนาขึ้นมา เข้าเป็นชุดโปรแกรมในชื่อ PortableApps.com Suite เพื่อความสะดวกในการดาวน์โหลดและการใช้งานอีกด้วย

ชุดโปรแกรม PortableApps.com Suite
PortableApps.com Suite เป็นชุดซอฟต์แวร์ซึ่งรวบรวมโปรแกรมแบบ Portable ที่ได้รับความนิยมหลายๆ ตัว โดยจะมีโปรแกรมประเภทต่างๆ ดังนี้ web browser, email client, office suite, calendar/scheduler, instant messaging client, antivirus, audio player, sudoku game, password manager, PDF reader, minesweeper clone, backup utility และ integrated menu โดยทุกโปรแกรมนั้นจะทำงานแบบ Portable เวอร์ชันปัจจุบัน (18 ก.ค. 52) คือ 1.5.2

PortableApps.com Suite มีให้เลือกใช้งาน 3 เวอร์ชันด้วยกัน คือ เวอร์ชัน Platform Only เวอร์ชัน Suite Light และเวอร์ชัน Suite Standard ซึ่งแต่ละเวอร์ชันจะแตกต่างกันที่จำนวนโปรแกรมที่มีให้ใช้งาน โดยสามารถดาวน์โหลดได้ฟรีจากเว็บไซต์ http://portableapps.com/suite

การติดตั้ง
PortableApps.com Suite นั้นสามารถติดตั้งลงในฮาร์ดดิสก์หรือไดรฟ์แบบพกพาก็ได้ (ขนาดความจุดต้องเหมาะสมกับเวอร์ชันที่ใช้) โดยหลังจากดาวน์โหลดเสร็จแล้วให้ทำการติดตั้งโดยการดับเบิลคลิกที่ไฟล์ที่ดาวนโหลดมา (เวอร์ชันปัจจุบันไฟล์ชื่อ PortableApps.com_Suite_Setup_1.5.2.exe)

หลังจากการติดตั้งแล้วเสร็จ ให้ดับเบิลคลิกที่ไฟล์ StartPortableApps.exe ซึ่งจะอยู่ในรูทของไดร์ฟที่ทำการติดตั้ง หรือไดร์ฟอุปกรณ์เก็บข้อมูลแบบพกพา จากนั้นก็เลือกเปิดโปรแกรมที่ต้องการจาก PortableApps.com Menu

หมายเหตุ: การติดตั้ง PortableApps.com Suite นั้น แนะนำให้ติดตั้งที่รูทของไดรฟ์อุปกรณ์เก็บข้อมูลแบบพกพา เช่น K:\ เป็นต้น
