VirtualBox เป็นซอฟต์แวร์แบบโอเพนซอร์สสำหรับใช้จำลองระบบคอมพิวเตอร์ (Virtualization) บนเครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์ระบบ x86 และ AMD64/Intel64 ที่มีประสิทธิภาพสูง มีคุณสมบัติให้ใช้งานหลากหลาย และมีเวอร์ชันให้เลือกใช้งานครอบคลุมทั้ง Windows, MAC OS X, Linux และ Solaris ทำให้ VirtualBox เป็น Virtualization Solutions ระดับมืออาชีพที่สามารถรองรับการใช้งานได้ทั้งการใช้งานส่วนตัว สำนักงานขนาดเล็ก จนถึงบริษัทขนาดใหญ่
VirtualBox เป็นซอฟต์แวร์ของโอราเคิล (เดิมเป็นของ Sun Microsystem) อนุญาตให้ใช้งานได้ฟรีภายใต้ไลเซนส์แบบ GNU General Public License (GPL) สำหรับ VirtualBox 4.1 ซึ่งเป็นเวอร์ชันหลักในปัจจุบันนั้นมีความสามารถเพิ่มขึ้นจากเวอร์ชันก่อนหน้าหลายอย่าง เช่น สามารถรองรับการโคลนเวอร์ชวลแมชชีน (Virtual Machine), ปรับปรุงตัวช่วยในการสร้างเวอร์ชวลฮาร์ดดิสก์ใหม่ (Virtual Disk), มีตัวช่วยในการสำเนาเวอร์ชวลฮาร์ดดิสก์ตัวใหม่, และเพิ่มการรองรับหน่วยความจำสูงสุดบนโฮสต์ (Host) แบบ 64-บิท เป็น 1 TB และระบบกราฟิกไดรเวอร์แบบ WDDM สำหรับรองรับ Windows Aero (ยังอยู่ในขั้นทดลอง) เป็นต้น โดยรายละเอียดทั้งหมดอ่านได้จาก "VirtualBox 4.1.0 Build 73009"
