Google ออก Chrome 4.0.249.78 Stable Update เวอร์ชันสำหรับระบบปฏิบัติการ Windows และถือเป็นเวอร์ชันแรกของเมเจอร์เวอร์ชัน 4.0 โดยออกวันที่ 25 มกราคม 2553 ซึ่งในเวอร์ชันใหม่ล่าสุดนี้ มีการเพิ่มคุณสมบัติ (Features) ใหม่หลายอย่าง รวมถึงได้รับการแก้ไขปัญหาเรื่องความปลอดภัยต่างๆ (Security Fixes) ที่พบในเวอร์ชัน 3.0 ตามรายละเอียดด้านล่าง

การดาวน์โหลดและการติดตั้ง Google Chrome 4.0.249.78
Google Chrome 4.0.249.78 นั้นสามารถทำงานได้บน Windows XP, Windows Vista และ Windows 7 โดยวิธีการติดตั้งนั้น โดยทั่วไปสามารถแบ่งออกได้เป็น 3 กรณี ดังต่อไปนี้

กรณีที่ 3 มีการติดตั้ง Google Chrome เวอร์ชัน 3.0.195.38 หรือ เวอร์ชันก่อนหน้าบนเครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์อยู่ก่อนแล้ว สามารถทำการอัพเดทเป็นเวอร์ชัน 4.0.249.78 ได้ตามขั้นตอนดังนี้

1. เปิดโปรแกรม Google Chrome จากนั้นคลิกที่ไอคอนรูปเครื่องมือ แล้วเลือกคำสั่ง About Google Chrome

2. ในหน้าไดอะล็อกบ็อกซ์ About Google Chrome ให้คลิก Update Now แล้วรอจนโปรแกรมทำการติดตั้งแล้วเสร็จ
3. ในหน้าไดอะล็อกบ็อกซ์ Please close all Chrome windows and restart Chrome for this change to take effect ให้คลิก OK
4. ในหน้าไดอะล็อกบ็อกซ์ About Google Chrome ให้คลิก OK อีกครั้ง
5. ทำการรีสตาร์ทโปรแกรม Google Chrome เพื่อให้การเปลี่ยนแปลงมีผล
