ถือว่าประสบความสำเร็จเป็นอย่างมากสำหรับการเปิดให้ดาวน์โหลด Internet Explorer 9 Beta (ต่อไปขอเรียกว่า IE9 Beta เพื่อความกระชับ) ของไมโครซอฟท์ เนื่องจากมีจำนวนการดาวน์โหลดรวมทั้งหมดมากกว่า 2,000,000 ครั้งในระยะเวลาเพียง 2 วันเท่านั้น ซึ่งเฉลี่ยแล้วมีการดาวน์โหลดสูงถึง 1,000,000 ครั้งต่อวันทีเดียว
โดย IE9 นั้นเป็นความหวังของไมโครซอฟท์ในการแย่งชิงผู้ใช้กับ Firefox ของ Mozilla และ Chrome ของ Google เนื่องจากใน 1-2 ปีที่ผ่านมาจำนวนผู้ใช้ IE ลดลงอย่างต่อเนื่อง ทั้งนี้ไมโครซอฟท์ได้เปิดให้ผู้สนใจดาวน์โหลด IE9 Beta เมื่อวันที่ 16 ก.ย. 53 (ตามเวลาในประเทศไทย) แต่อย่างไรก็ตาม IE9 Beta (รวมถึงเวอร์ชัน Final) นั้นจะมีเฉพาะเวอร์ชันสำหรับ Windows 7, Windows Vista และ Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista 64-bit และ Windows Server 2008 64-bit และ Windows 7 64-bit และ Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit โดยที่ไม่มีเวอร์ชันสำหรับ Windows XP แต่อย่างใด
