ไมโครซอฟท์เปิดตัว Windows 7 ในงาน PDC2008
เมื่อวันที่ 28 ตุลาคม 2008 ที่ผ่านมา ไมโครซอฟท์ได้เปิดตัว Windows 7 ในงาน Professional Developers Conference 2008 (PDC2008) ใน Los Angeles โดย Windows 7 ที่เปิดตัวในครั้งนี้จะเป็นเวอร์ชัน Build 6780 และมีผู้เชี่ยวชาญคาดการณ์ว่า ไมโครซอฟท์น่าจะเปิดให้ผู้ใช้ทั่วไปดาวน์โหลด Windows 7 เวอร์ชัน Beta ไปทดลองใช้งานในช่วงต้นปี 2009

บทวิจารณ์ Windows 7
จากข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับ Windows 7 ที่ไมโครซอฟท์ได้นำเสนอในงาน PDC2008 นั้น พอจะสรุปประเด็นที่สำคัญๆ ของ Window 7 ได้ดังนี้
• Manageability
Windows 7 ขยายขอบเขตการจัดการระบบด้วย Group Policy เพิ่มขึ้นจาก Windows Vista และสามารถกำหนดนโยบายให้กับแต่ละยูสเซอร์หรือคอมพิวเตอร์รวมถึงส่วนประกอบที่เป็น non-GP aware
นอกจากนี้ยังนำเสนอฟีเจอร์ DirectAccess ซึ่งช่วยในการจัดการและอัพเดทเครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์แบบพกพา และใน Windows 7 จะมีเครื่องมือจัดการระบบชั้นสูงสำหรับผู้ดูแลระบบอย่าง Powershell 2.0 ซึ่งในเวอร์ชันใหม่นี้ช่วยให้การทำงานที่ซ้ำๆ ทำได้ง่ายขึ้นและมีระบบอินเทอร์เฟชแบบ UI อีกด้วย

• Security and Compliance
ใน Windows Vista นั้นได้นำเสนอฟีเจอร์ด้านความปลอดภัยที่ดีหลายตัว เช่น User Account Control (UAC) ซึ่งจะป้องกันการแก้ไขระบบโดยไม่ได้รับอนุญาตจาก Administrator หรือฟีเจอร์ BitLocker สำหรับใช้การเข้ารหัสไดร์ฟเพื่อการปกป้องความลับข้อมูล (ได้รับการปรับปรุงให้สามารถทำการเข้ารหัสไดร์ฟแบบ non-boot volumes ได้ใน Service Pack 1)

ใน Windows 7 นั้นจะยังคงมีฟีเจอร์ดังกล่าวนี้ โดย User Account Control (UAC) ใน Windows 7 นั้น Administrator จะสามารถปรับแต่งให้เหมาะสมกับสภาพแวดล้อมการใช้งานในองค์กร สำหรับฟีเจอร์ BitLocker ได้ขยายให้รองรับสื่อเก็บข้อมูลแบบพกพาด้วยฟีเจอร์ BitLocker To Go ซึ่งจะช่วยควบคุมไม่ให้ข้อมูลรั่วไหลออกจากองค์กรได้ดีขึ้น นอกจากนี้ Windows 7 ยังทำให้ Administrator สามารถควบคุมการเข้าถึงแอพพลิเคชันของยูสเซอร์ได้อีกด้วย

Deployment
Windows Vista ได้ปรับปรุงการติดตั้งใช้งานให้ง่ายขึ้นโดยใช้พื้นฐานบน Windows Imaging Format (WIM) ซึ่งทำให้สามารถสร้างอิมเมจสำหรับใช้ในการติดตั้งใช้งานโดยไม่ขึ้นกับระบบฮาร์ดแวร์และภาษาที่ใช้ และยังมีเครื่องมือสนับสนุนอีกหลายตัวที่ช่วยในการวางแผน ทดสอบและติดตั้งใช้งานในปริมาณมากๆ เช่น Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, Application Compatibility Toolkit และ Microsoft Assessment and Planning toolkit

ใน Windows 7 ได้ปรับปรุงการสร้างอิมเมจสำหรับใช้ในการติดตั้งใช้งานให้ดีขึ้นด้วย Dynamic Driver provisioning, Deployment Image Service and Management tool, Multicast Multiple Stream Transfer รวมถึงการปรับปรุง User state migration ให้ดีขึ้น

สรุป
จากข้อมูลที่ไมโครซอฟท์ให้นั้น ดูเหมือนว่า Windows 7 นั้น มีจุดเด่นอยู่หลายด้านด้วยกัน เช่น ด้านการจัดการระบบ ด้านความปลอดภัย ด้านการติดตั้งใช้งาน และด้านการใช้งาน ซึ่งสิ่งต่างๆ เหล่านั้นดูเหมือนจะเป็นที่ต้องการใช้ของทั้งยูสเซอร์และผู้ดูแลระบบ แต่อย่างไรก็ตามจุดเด่นหลายๆ อย่างนั้นในปัจจุบันก็มีให้ใช้งานแล้วใน Windows Vista Service Pack 1

สำหรับคำแนะนำจากผู้เชี่ยวชาญนั้น ได้แนะนำว่าให้ทำการประเมินการใช้งาน Windows Vista Service Pack 1 เปรียบเทียบกับ Windows 7 แล้วค่อยตัดสินใจว่าจะอัพเกรดจาก Windows XP ไปเป็น Windows Vista Service Pack 1 หรือ Windows 7

ความคืบหน้าของ Windows Vista Service Pack 2
จากข้อมูลบน Windows Vista Teams Blog มีความคืบหน้าของ Windows Vista Service Pack 2 ว่าทีมพัฒนาได้ส่ง Windows Vista Service Pack 2 เวอร์ชัน Beta ให้กับกลุ่มลูกค้าที่เป็นสมาชิกโปรแกรม Technology Adoption Program ทดลองใช้งานในวันที่ 29 ตุลาคม 2008 ที่ผ่านมา

สำหรับกำหนดการณ์ที่จะออกเวอร์ชันสุดท้ายนั้น จะขึ้นอยู่กับคุณภาพที่ได้จากการทดสอบ โดยทีมพัฒนากล่าวว่าจะทำการทดสอบจนกว่าจะได้ผลตอบกลับที่น่าพอใจ ก่อนที่จะทำการออกเวอร์ชันสุดท้าย ในส่วนรายละเอียดอื่นๆ นั้น ทีมพัฒนากล่าวว่า Vista Service Pack 2 เวอร์ชัน Beta จะเป็นการรวมอัพเดทต่างๆ สำหรับฟืกซ์ปัญหาด้าน Reliability, Performance และ Compatibility

Windows 7 (โค้ดเนม Blackcomb และ Vienna) นั้นเป็นระบบปฏิบัติการสำหรับเดสก์ท็อปตัวใหม่ของไมโครซอฟท์ อาจมีหลายคนที่สงสัยว่าเลข 7 นั้น หมายถึงอะไรหรือมาจากอะไร ซึ่งจากข้อมูลในบล็อกของทีมพัฒนาของไมโครซอฟท์นั้น ตัวเลข 7 นั้นเป็นการนับเวอร์ชันต่อเนื่องจากเวอร์ชันก่อนๆ หน้า

หากมองย้อนกลับไปยังจุดเริ่มต้นของระบบปฏิบัติการวินโดวส์ คิดว่าวินโดวส์เวอร์ชันที่หลายคงรู้จักเป็นเวอร์ชันแรกน่าจะเป็น Windows 3.0 แต่จริงๆ แล้ว ระบบปฏิบัติการวินโดวส์เวอร์ชันแรกของไมโครซอฟท์คือ 1.0 จากนั้นก็มีการพัฒนาเป็นเวอร์ชัน 2.0 แล้วจึงมาได้รับความนิยมและเป็นที่รู้จักกันอย่างแพร่หลายในวินโดวส์เวอร์ชัน 3.0 หลังจากนั้นไมโครซอฟท์ได้เปลี่ยนไปใช้ชื่อเวอร์ชันแทนการใช้เวอร์ชันแบบตัวเลข คือ Windows NT ซึ่งนับเป็นเวอร์ชัน 3.1 จากนั้นเป็น Windows 95 ซึ่งนับเป็นเวอร์ชัน 4.0 ต่อจากนั้นเป็น Windows 98 และ Windows Millennium Edition ซึ่งยังถือเป็นเวอร์ชัน 4 อยู่ โดย Windows 98 นับเป็นเวอร์ชัน 4.0.1998, Windows 98 SE นับเป็นเวอร์ชัน 4.10.2222 และ Windows Millennium Edition นับเป็นเวอร์ชัน 4.90.3000 (สรุปได้ว่าไมโครซอฟท์นับ Windows 9x เป็นเวอร์ชัน 4.0)ต่อจาก Windows 9x จะเป็น Windows 2000 ซึ่งนับเป็นเวอร์ชัน 5.0 เวอร์ชันถัดมาคือ Windows XP ซึ่งนับเป็นเวอร์ชัน 5.1 และล่าสุดคือ Windows Vista ซึ่งจะนับเป็นเวอร์ชัน 6.0

ดังนั้น เมื่อไมโครซอฟท์วางแผนในการพัฒระบบปฏิบัติการสำหรับเดสก์ท็อปตัวใหม่ต่อจาก Windows Vista จึงตั้งชื่อเป็น Windows 7

วิธีการดูโฟลเดอร์ System ของ Windows
ในบางครั้งเราอาจต้องการเปิดโฟลเดอร์ต่างๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับระบบของ Windows ตัวอย่างเช่น ต้องการดูโฟลเดอร์ที่เก็บไฟล์ System หรือโฟลเดอร์ cookies ของ Internet Explorer หรือดูรายการเมนูใน Send To ซึ่งวิธีการปกตินั้นทำได้โดยการใช้ Windows Explorer นอกจากนี้ ยังสามารถใช้คำสั่ง shell ได้เช่นกัน โดยให้ทำตามขั้นตอนดังนี้
