Windows 7 จะมี 6 Edition รวมถึง Starter Edition
Windows 7 ซึ่งเป็นระบบปฏิบัติการเดสก์ท็อปตัวใหม่ของไมโครซอฟต์ ซึ่งเป็นการพัฒนาต่อเนื่องมาจาก Windows Vista (ผมคิดเอาเองว่า Windows 7 คือเวอร์ชัน R2 ของ Windows Vista) จากข้อมูลล่าสุด น่าจะสามารถใช้ยืนยันได้ว่าไมโครซอฟท์มีแผนออก Windows 7 จำนวน 6 Edition รวมถึง Starter Edition รายละเอียดดังนี้

1. Windows 7 Starter Edition (รันโปรแกรมได้พร้อมกันเพียง 3 โปรแกรม)
2. Windows 7 Home Basic
3. Windows 7 Home Premium (มีอินเทอร์เฟชแบบ Aero)
4. Windows 7 Professional (Business)
5. Windows 7 Enterprise*
6. Windows 7 Ultimate

Windows 7 Edition

Windows 7 Starter:
รันโปรแกรมได้พร้อมกันเพียง 3 โปรแกรม, มีฟีเจอร์ใหม่อย่าง Home Group มีที่ได้รับการปรับปรุงใหม่อย่าง Taskbar และ JumpLists

Windows 7 Home Basic:
รันโปรแกรมได้พร้อมกันจำกัดจำนวน (ขึ้นอยู่กับทรัพยากรของระบบ) มีฟีเจอร์ Live thumbnail previews & enhanced visual experience มีฟีเจอร์การใช้งานระบบเครือข่ายขั้นสูงอย่าง Ad-hoc wireless networks, Internet connection sharing และมีฟีเจอร์ Mobility Center

Windows 7 Home Premium:
มีฟีเจอร์ Aero Glass & advanced windows navigation, มีที่ได้รับการปรับปรุงใหม่อย่าง Media format และ Handwriting recognition มีฟีเจอร์ Windows Media Center รวมถึง Play To และ Multi-touch

Windows 7 Professional (Business):
รองรับการใช้งานในสภาพแวดล้อมแบบโดเมน มีฟีเจอร์ Advanced network backup และ Encrypting File System และ Location Aware Printing

Windows 7 Enterprise และ Windows 7 Ultimate:
มีฟีเจอร์ BitLocker ที่รองรับไดรว์ทั้งแบบ Internal และ External มีฟีเจอร์ DirectAccess และ BranchCache (ต้องใช้งานร่วมกับ Windows Server 2008 R2) และฟีเจอร์ AppLocker

หมายเหตุ:
Windows 7 Enterprise* จะไม่มีจำหน่ายแบบปลีก แต่จะจำหน่ายให้กับองค์กรผ่านทาง Microsoft Software Assurance (SA) เท่านั้น
